what a waste of time.

I’m sorry you feel that way. Would you mind elaborating on why a little more so I can better my tutorials in the future?

The main problem is the drums and the pattern in no way embodies J Dilla’s style. The pattern is too busy. The drums are too quantized and the kit itself is not stacked and loose enough. I appreciate your engineering skills in Reason, but, to put Dilla’s name on this tutorial was a mistake…

Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it. I understand what you mean. I have heard that a lot. I should have been more clear when titling and explaining this post. I wasn’t trying to exactly copy J Dilla’s style of drums I was just trying to teach a mixing technique. If you ever have any suggestions on how to make my tutorials better in the future please let me know. I’m open to anything that will help me out along with this site and its followers.
The kit I used was in the J Dilla ReFill from Hi-Powered Productions so I just used it the way it was. I think I know what you mean when you said “stacked and loose enough” but I just want to make sure I understand correctly. Is it because the drums aren’t layered and they sort of have an abnormal decay that makes them not like a live kit? Like there is no tail or reverberation after the initial hit?
